Meet Our Occupational Therapist

Jennifer Schmidt, OTR/L, is a registered and licensed Occupational Therapist in the state of Florida with over twenty-five years of experience who provides individualized OT services at Happy Place Kid’s Gym. Jennifer has worked in various settings including hospitals, rehabilitation centers, home health care, skilled nursing facilities and schools. Jennifer’s passion for working with children with Autism and other special needs has led to a career, over the past fifteen years, serving students and families in both public and private schools throughout Palm Beach County. She is a Certified Handwriting Without Tears®️ Specialist with expertise in assessing and teaching students, teachers and parents multi-sensory strategies and techniques to promote effective handwriting and keyboarding skills for all ages. With a strong background in behavior management and social skills training, Jennifer also provides consultative and therapeutic treatment strategies to assist students in the classroom, home and community to live a happier and more independent life.

Jennifer’s Background: 

  • Graduated from Florida International University with a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy in 1994
  • Specializes in pediatrics working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Learning Disabilities, Dysgraphia, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Sensory Processing Disorders and Developmental Delays 
  • Worked for Palm Beach County School District as an Occupational Therapist for nine years 
  • Lead Occupational Therapist at a private school for children with special needs for five years including Fieldwork Coordinator and Camp Director 
  • Certified Handwriting Without Tears®️ Specialist 
  • Sensory Integration therapy approach 
  • Assistive technology specialist  
  • Adaptive equipment expert 
  • Individual Education Plan (IEP) Advocate
